For the first time in the last twenty years, no Ukrainian club will participate in the main stage of the Champions League. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Previously, the Dynamo Kyiv club was representing the country in the tournament's qualifying stage. However, Dynamo lost to the Greek team Pafos in the third qualifying round and exited the competition.
Thus, Ukrainian clubs will not be seen in the main stage of the Champions League this season. This situation was last observed in the 2005-2006 season.
If Dynamo had reached the playoff stage, they would have faced the Serbian team Crvena Zvezda. These matches were expected with concern by the European football community due to political conflicts and tensions among fans.
It is also worth noting that Russian clubs have been banned from participating in European club competitions since 2022. Therefore, currently neither Ukrainian nor Russian clubs are participating in the most prestigious competitions in Europe.
This is considered an important event for regional football.
