In the first round match of the new season of the English Championship between Chelsea and Crystal Palace, a controversial decision was made regarding the goal scored by midfielder Eberechi Eze. Euro-football.ru reported on this.
In the 14th minute of the game, Eze struck the ball powerfully and accurately from about 17 meters, sending it into the net. However, the referees, using VAR technology, determined that a rule violation had occurred and advised the main referee to review the video footage.
After the review, the goal was canceled. The reason was that before the shot was taken, Chelsea's defenders formed a wall, and the opposing player Gexi was positioned close to that wall.
According to the rules, opposing players must be at least one meter away from the defensive wall. The match between Chelsea and Crystal Palace is currently ongoing.
