The General Assembly of the German Football League (DFL) will take place on September 3. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
In preparation for this, German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Mertz firmly stated that he supports the "50+1" rule. This rule stipulates that at least 50 percent plus one share of a club must be controlled by the fans.
This regulation prevents external investors from gaining full control of the teams. Mertz said he is aware of the debates surrounding this rule.
He stood firm in his opinion, emphasizing the importance of strong ties to the clubs. Although these rules may impose certain restrictions, especially in competition with other clubs in Europe, their significance remains.
Recently, the "50+1" rule has mainly been discussed in terms of its compliance with antitrust legislation and exceptions for clubs such as Bayer and Wolfsburg. These issues are considered important for ensuring fairness and competitiveness in football.
