Gadji Gadzhiev, head of the Dinamo team in Makhachkala, expressed doubts about the imminent tightening of restrictions on foreign players in the Russian Premier League (RPL). This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
In his opinion, given the current situation where Russian clubs and the national team are almost cut off from international competitions, such restrictions are premature and inappropriate. Gadzhiev emphasized that interest in the Russian championship still remains, citing the example of the Krasnodar club purchasing French players.
Introducing strict rules now would create additional problems for clubs, as they would be forced to look for options to accommodate excess foreign players, while at the same time limiting the opportunities to strengthen the teams effectively, he said. According to Gadzhiev, the current limit does not fully meet the needs of Russian football, especially under the conditions where teams are excluded from international arenas.
Sport, particularly football, is a serious political tool, which is precisely why the Russian national team and clubs are not allowed to participate in international competitions. Nevertheless, players from many countries want to come to Russia.
Earlier it was reported that in the future the foreign player limit in the RPL will be tightened, with the plan to allow 10 foreign players in the team roster, but only five of them can play on the field.
