Owners of English football clubs may be imprisoned for violating the most serious rules of football governance law if they behave improperly with their teams. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
The Guardian reports on this matter. So far, these proposals have been put forward by the Independent Football Regulator (IFR).
The government has shown interest in the law coming into force next month and is currently discussing it with club representatives. The changes aim to increase the responsibility of club owners, protect against financial and management issues, and develop English football in a stable and fair environment.
The law provides for imprisonment for losing or hiding documents, providing false information, and obstructing the regulator's work. In addition, financial penalties and mandatory club sales are also envisaged as punishments.
It should be emphasized that honest owners with good governance will not be harmed.
