Former German footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger admitted that the Germany national team was prepared to lose in the match against Slovakia. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
The match took place on Thursday during the 2026 World Cup qualifying stage. Slovakia won 2-0 on their home ground, scoring one goal in each half.
Schweinsteiger did not hide that he expected the defeat. He emphasized that the team's play was very poor, there were no good passes, and no threat was posed to the opponent.
He said that the players' body language already showed everything when the score was 0-1. He stressed that resilience is necessary to win, and no matter how much the coach talks, the players themselves need to realize this.
Schweinsteiger also noted that qualifying for the World Cup in such a match would be a great stroke of luck. He played 121 games for the German national team from 2004 to 2016.
