Press Secretary of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, expressed his opinion on tightening restrictions on foreign football players. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, he briefly emphasized that this issue should be resolved by experts. Earlier, it was reported that Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyaryov plans to change the rules regarding the number of legionnaires starting from the 2028/2029 season.
According to the new regulation, five legionnaires can be on the field, and a total of ten legionnaires can be registered in the team roster. Currently, there are rules in the Russian championship regarding the number of foreign players, allowing eight legionnaires on the field and a total of thirteen legionnaires in the team roster.
These changes are expected to impact the development of the country's football and are being carefully considered by specialists.
