Paris Saint-Germain's striker Ousmane Dembele accidentally got involved in a controversy. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Independent journalist Neil Gardner received an email from one of the marketing agencies titled "Confidential partnership opportunity." The email proposed running a campaign on social media around Dembele, suggesting him as a main candidate for the "Ballon d'Or."
The agency's founder told The Athletic that the message was sent by an 18-year-old intern. He acted without permission and described it as "educational curiosity."
The young intern apologized to Gardner and Dembele for the misunderstanding. Meanwhile, Ousmane Dembele's representatives firmly deny any involvement in organizing such an information campaign on behalf of their player.
The Goal portal also highlights several inconsistencies regarding this incident. Firstly, the information spread about Dembele may not have seriously influenced the "Ballon d'Or" voting.
Secondly, the voting process has already concluded. The "Ballon d'Or" award will be presented on September 22.
