Uzbek specialist Dmitriy Khomukha, who previously worked with the Russian youth national teams U17 and U19, shared his memories about the victory achieved at the European Championship. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
This event took place in 2013 with the U17 national team. In the group stage, the Russian team earned 5 points, surpassing Italy and Croatia based on additional criteria.
In this group, the Ukrainian national team did not earn any points. In the play-off stage, Khomukha’s trainees defeated the Swedes in a penalty shootout, and then won against the Italians in the same manner.
Khomukha said: “We analyzed who would take penalties accurately, who could handle stress, and who was ready to take responsibility. This helped us greatly in the semi-final and final.” He also noted that some players faced difficulties transitioning from youth to senior football, and as a result, only Aleksandr Golovin was able to prove himself in foreign clubs.
