Ventura takes responsibility for the 2018 defeat

The Italian national team failed to qualify for the last two World Cups, losing in the play-off stage both times. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.

In 2018, they lost to the Swedish national team, and in 2022, they were defeated by the North Macedonia team. In the first case, the national team coach, Gian Piero Ventura, recalls his experience as a bitter memory.

Ventura was the head coach of the Italian national team from 2016 to 2017. He emphasized that after the 2018 defeat, he was the only one held responsible.

At the same time, he noted that the 2022 results were evaluated differently, as the team under Roberto Mancini had won the 2020 European Championship. According to Ventura, this achievement changed the attitude towards Mancini and his team.
