Nodirbek Maintained the Lead in the Tata Steel Tournament

Nodirbek Abdusattorov played against Dutch representative Jorden van Forest in the 11th round of the prestigious Tata Steel Chess 2026 tournament and drew the game. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Although this result seemed simple on paper, it was quite important in the overall tournament standings. After this draw, Nodirbek increased his points to 7 and maintained first place in the competition table.
However, considering that only two rounds remain until the end of the tournament, the gap with his rivals has significantly narrowed. Therefore, every half-point is very valuable.
Regarding the details of the game, Nodirbek’s decision to accept a draw was logically correct. Firstly, he played with the black pieces, which requires caution.
Secondly, attempting risky moves for a win could have led to losing the opportunity. Thus, Nodirbek achieved his goal and secured the necessary result.
Jorden van Forest also did not take excessive risks in this game. Had he won, he could have moved up to first place in the standings, but the opponent’s strong defense and the tense conditions of the tournament prompted the host player to be cautious.
As a result, the game ended in a draw after the same moves were repeated twice. This result allowed van Forest to accumulate 6.5 points and move up to second place.
Now, the final two rounds of the tournament are expected to be filled with the most important challenges. In the 12th round, Nodirbek will play against German representative Matthias Bluebaum.
In the final round, he will face one of India’s strong chess players, Arjun Erigaisi. The current situation shows that although the lead has been maintained, there is no “autopilot” mode in the tournament.
Now every game is as important as a final. Fans expect Nodirbek to remain calm, calculate accurately, and avoid mistakes.
