Iran's Sports Minister Believes Qualifying for the World Cup Is Impossible

Iran's Minister of Sports, Ahmad Donyomali, expressed a harsh and pessimistic view regarding our national team's participation in the 2026 World Cup to be held in the United States. Zamin.uz reported on this.
According to him, given the recent political events, losses, and the overall situation in the country, it appears practically impossible for the national team to qualify for the tournament. The Minister's statement reveals a very heavy and worried state of mind.
He stated that two wars have been forced upon the country within eight or nine months, resulting in the deaths of thousands of compatriots, making it difficult to even think about sports under such circumstances. Donyomali emphasized that following events such as the killing of leaders by a corrupt government, no conditions remain for participating in the World Cup.
Due to ruthless actions taken against the Iranian people, the possibility of participating in the competition has almost vanished. However, another signal is also being sent by the International Football Federation.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that after a meeting with US President Donald Trump, the Iranian national team could participate in the 2026 World Cup. Trump, for his part, indicated that the door remains open to the Iranian team in this matter.
Currently, the situation is such that on one hand, officials within Iran are speaking sharply about how difficult it is to even attend the tournament due to harsh conditions, while on the other hand, FIFA and US representatives are expressing an official position that participation is possible. Therefore, it is highly likely that the uncertainty surrounding this issue will continue for quite some time.
We remind you that the 2026 World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19 on the fields of the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Source: One.uz
