Iran's Sports Minister Views the World Championship in the US with Doubt

Iran's Minister of Sports, Ahmad Donyamali, openly expressed his doubts regarding the upcoming FIFA World Cup scheduled to be held in the United States next year. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the minister, adequate security guarantees for the athletes of the Iranian national team have not yet been ensured. The intensifying geopolitical tensions between the two countries have turned the safe travel of Iranian footballers to the US and their participation in competitions there into a serious issue.
Donyamali emphasized that the instability of diplomatic relations is making it difficult for the team to prepare for and compete in the championship. These statements were made public following recent remarks by US President Donald Trump regarding the participation of the Iranian team.
The Minister of Sports noted that the contradictory statements from American leadership have further heightened concerns for the lives and health of the players. In his view, FIFA should fully consider the political situation and reconsider the hosting rights.
He also pointed out that logistical challenges, such as flight restrictions and the complexity of security protocols, are currently not being properly managed. Against this backdrop of difficulties, Iranian officials suggested that it might be appropriate to relocate their matches to Mexican territory.
Ahmad Donyamali announced that Iran is ready to seriously discuss this matter if the Mexican side, in cooperation with FIFA, provides the necessary infrastructure and security guarantees. However, he acknowledged that no official agreement has been reached so far between the two countries or with FIFA.
The minister expressed hope that FIFA will soon take necessary measures to ensure Iranian footballers can participate without political pressure and in safe conditions. Source: One.uz
