Magnus Carlsen played an online game with 143 thousand chess players!

The online confrontation that sparked great interest in the chess world concluded with a 46-day intellectual marathon. Former world champion Magnus Carlsen faced off against "Team World" — more than 143 thousand users from around the globe on Chess.com, and the game ended in a draw.

This format saw the largest number of participants in history, surpassing the records of Garry Kasparov (50 thousand participants in 1999) and Viswanathan Anand (70 thousand participants in 2023).

The competition was held in the Fisher Random Chess format — in this type, the placement of pieces is chosen randomly. Carlsen made the first move, and then each world participant selected moves through voting. Each side was allotted 24 hours for one move.

Initially, Carlsen had a positional advantage, but the "Team World" team withstood the pressure and managed to maintain positional balance. The game ended in a draw due to a threefold repetition of the position on the 32nd move.

After the game, Carlsen said: “I felt the advantage at first, but then I made a wrong decision. My opponents left no opportunities — they played very solidly and effectively.”

This game became a symbol not only of the moves made in chess history but also of global unity and intellectual collaboration.
