The Madrid club “Real” is bidding farewell to Luka Modric, who has become a legend in the team over the last decade and has firmly established his name in world football. The 39-year-old Croatian playmaker made an official statement about this and said a heartfelt goodbye to the fans.
“Dear 'Real' family, the unforgettable moment has arrived. On Saturday, I will play my last match at 'Santiago Bernabeu'. I will take my final steps in this stadium. Of course, I always hoped it would be later, but in football, everything has a beginning and an end. This is part of life,” he said with heartfelt words.
Modric joined “Real” from “Tottenham” in 2012. According to him, at that time he aimed to have a successful career with the team, but he never imagined achieving such high-level successes.
“I started a new life in Madrid as a player. Here, I understood football differently. Winning every competition, experiencing joy in every final — these are such high-level emotions that are hard to express in words. Most importantly, I found not only trophies here but also love from the heart. The support of the fans, every cheer, and the love from the stands completely captivated me,” Luka noted.
He expressed his gratitude to club president Florentino Perez, the coaching staff, his teammates, and everyone who has been part of the team. While talking about the “remontadas,” finals, and magical nights at “Bernabeu,” he emphasized that he would cherish these moments forever.
“Every championship, every trophy raised is special to me. But my greatest wealth is feeling that I am a part of 'Real',” he said.
Modric participated in 590 matches for the Madrid team, scored 43 goals, and made 95 assists. Together with him, the “whites” won the Champions League 6 times, La Liga 4 times, the Copa del Rey 2 times, and the Supercopa 5 times. Additionally, he also celebrated victories in the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup as part of “Real”.
Modric concluded his speech by saying: “I will officially leave after the Club World Cup. But 'Real' will forever remain in my heart. I will now be a fan of my team as always. I leave with gratitude, having left a history behind me.”
