Talented Uzbek chess players Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Javohir Sindorov are showcasing their skills at the Chess.com Open 2026, one of the world's most prestigious online competitions. According to Zamin.uz, this major event serves as a qualifying stage for the Esports World Cup scheduled for 2026.
The planet's strongest grandmasters have entered into a fierce battle for spots in the next stage and a substantial prize pool. During the competition, Javohir Sindorov was forced to end his participation.
In the initial stage, he lost to the experienced Russian player Daniil Dubov. Sindorov then attempted to use his second chance in a match against France's Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.
After two draws in the main games, the winner was decided in an Armageddon tie-break. Unfortunately, luck favored his opponent in this decisive moment, and our compatriot exited the tournament.
Nodirbek Abdusattorov, however, started the tournament successfully. In the first round, he demonstrated his dominance by defeating American Sam Sevian with a convincing 3-0 score.
But in the following match against Denis Lazavik of Belarus, Abdusattorov narrowly lost 3-2. He will now face Russia's Ian Nepomniachtchi in the losers' bracket, fighting to stay in the competition.
The tournament is held in a rapid format, with ten minutes allotted to each player. According to the rules, a player is eliminated from the championship race after two losses.
As reported by One.uz, Abdusattorov finished fifth in last year's World Cup, earning a significant prize. Sindorov was also well-rewarded for his performance in the group stage.
Fans are now eagerly awaiting Nodirbek's next victory.
