«Manchester City» defeated «AYEK» and advanced to the next stage
Today, October 20, 2026, on a Tuesday evening, an important match will take place as part of the UEFA Champions League: Manchester City will host Scottish club Celtic at their home ground, the magnificent Etihad Stadium. This is reported by One.uz.
The match is crucial for the team to improve its position in the tournament standings and secure direct advancement to the next round. Under Pep Guardiola’s leadership, the Citizens view this game as a must-win, as their consistency and playing style shown in previous matches are considered sufficient to progress further.
Tournament standings and current situation
Manchester City’s position in the Champions League leaves no indifferent fans. Although they suffered a narrow 2:4 defeat to PSG in a tough match in Paris, the English side showed courageous play in the second leg, nearly equalizing the aggregate score.
This result boosted the team’s morale and gave them confidence going into the upcoming fixture. Earlier, the Citizens had defeated Porto 2:0 away, and currently they sit in 17th place in the table.
Erling Haaland has been scoring consistently, finding the net in eight consecutive matches, making his contribution a key factor in the team’s attacking strength. Squad and injuries
Concerns in the infirmary are affecting the team.
Erling Haaland’s condition is improving, but he did not participate in Monday’s official training session. Antoine Semenov is expected to be sidelined for approximately two months due to a serious muscle-related injury.
Mateo Kovačić, Niko O'Riley, and Mateus Núñez are also experiencing difficulties due to minor injuries. As a result, Abdukodir Husanov is very likely to start in the right-back position, as there is currently no other trusted option for Guardiola in that spot besides the Uzbek defender.
In central defense, the pairing of Marc Guehi and Victor Reis is expected to form. On the left flank, Josko Gvardiol returns from injury to reclaim his position. Gianluigi Donnarumma remains under criticism following his costly error in the match against PSG, but he still has the opportunity to redeem himself in the Champions League.
