GitHub Copilot has changed its subscription system and introduced a new payment plan

The preferential period for the GitHub Copilot platform, owned by Microsoft, seems to be coming to an end. Zamin.uz reported on this.
The company announced a fundamental change to its billing system, moving from a fixed monthly subscription fee to a system based on the amount of data units used, namely tokens. This change is expected to cause a sharp increase in costs for small businesses and independent developers.
This news is being widely discussed in international technology publications. According to the new rules, users will pay not based on the number of requests sent, but for the computing power and volume of data consumed during the work process.
Many specialists on social networks are expressing their surprise at this news. For example, some users who currently pay an average of around thirty dollars per month are concerned that their costs could rise to several hundred dollars under the new model.
Some developers are even sharing data showing that their monthly payments have increased several-fold. Such a sharp price hike is forcing many to consider abandoning the service.
According to software developers, using the AI assistant under the new pricing policy is no longer economically viable and does not bring profit. However, not all industry specialists agree with these criticisms.
Some experts point out that if a developer uses the tool correctly and purposefully, the costs will not be so high. In their view, excessively high bills may mainly be observed among users who load the AI with too many unnecessary tasks without a deep understanding of the code's content.
Analysts are also discussing how much loss Microsoft has incurred through this service up until now. It appears that the company has been covering users' costs out of its own pocket for a long time.
Now, after users have fully adapted to the system, the unexpected price increase is causing many objections and dissatisfaction. This situation is bound to have an impact on the market conjuncture and the competitive environment.
