A surgical error that occurred in Fergana region has sparked extensive discussions among the local population and representatives of the medical field. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
It has been revealed that the surgeon mistakenly amputated the patient's right leg from the thigh instead of the left leg. Subsequently, surgery was also performed on the left leg.
As a result of this grave mistake, the patient lost their life. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident, and the Kuva district court found the doctor guilty under part 3 of article 116 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
According to the court's decision, the surgeon was sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment and deprived of the right to hold leadership and medical positions in the healthcare sector for 3 years. Additionally, it was determined that the legal representative of the victim should receive 27 million 806 thousand soums as material damage and 80 million soums as moral damage.
This case once again highlighted the necessity to reduce human factors in medicine and strengthen control. Officials emphasize the need for strict oversight of surgical procedures, improving the qualifications of doctors, and ensuring patient safety.
