The Horticultural and Viticulture Research Institute of Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of understanding with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) within the framework of the "Managing Climate Risks in Central Asia" project. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is planned to continue until 2028. The main goal of the cooperation is to reduce the risks of climate change and natural disasters, as well as to enhance scientific and practical capacity for the effective management of transboundary water resources.
Modern, smart drip irrigation systems will be implemented in the Zarafshan River basin, and modernization efforts will be carried out in the agricultural sector. By 2025, it is planned to establish an intensive orchard on 10 hectares in the Navoi region and to set up an irrigation system.
The project includes important tasks such as the rational use of water resources, maintaining productivity in drought years, ensuring ecological balance, and increasing the efficiency of the agro-industrial sector. Experts emphasize that this experience is planned to be implemented as a model in other regions in the long term.
These efforts will contribute to sustainable development in the agricultural sector and play a crucial role in adapting to climate change
