100,000 breeding sheep will be brought from Mongolia

An important project is being implemented in the livestock sector of Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

It is planned to import 100,000 heads of pedigree sheep from Mongolia, with the initial thousand heads already delivered to our country. This was announced by the Committee for Veterinary and Livestock Development on August 16.

Within the framework of the visit of the Committee chairman Bahrom Norqobilov to Mongolia, one thousand "Bayad" breed sheep were sent to Uzbekistan by air transport. These sheep will be placed in the Navoi region for breeding and adaptation to local conditions.

According to the plan, by the end of October, another 50,000 heads will be brought in on 60 flights, and in November and December, another 50,000 heads of sheep will be imported. Thus, by the end of 2025, a total of 100,000 heads of pedigree sheep are planned to enter our country.

During the negotiations, a number of agreements were reached with the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, S. Amarsaikhan.

Among them, the reduction of the state duty on the export of sheep and goats from 18 dollars to 7 dollars will serve to increase the economic efficiency of the project. In accordance with the presidential decree, in 2025–2026, Uzbekistan and Mongolia will develop cooperation in a number of priority areas in agriculture and food sectors.

These include establishing breeding and selection work based on small ruminants, increasing their number to one million heads by 2029, gradually developing wool and cashmere processing and finished product manufacturing, annually increasing the volume of fruit, vegetable, and food product exports to the Mongolian market, establishing a system for experience exchange and specialist skill improvement between the two countries. In addition, the state has provided a number of benefits to business entities.

In particular, from August 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027, 50 percent of air transport costs will be reimbursed from the state budget when importing sheep and goats from Mongolia. Experts emphasize that this cooperation will not only develop local livestock farming but also help bring Uzbekistan's agricultural potential to a new level.

Mongolia's qualified pedigree sheep will make a significant contribution to increasing purebred livestock and improving product quality in the country. Source: Committee for Veterinary and Livestock Development, August 16, 2025.
