In Uzbekistan, efforts to manage water resources in a balanced way, use them efficiently, and protect them have reached a new level. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
For this purpose, the "Water Resources Management and Irrigation Sector Development" program for 2025–2028 has been approved. The program was adopted by the President's decree and outlines specific measures aimed at improving water supply and modernizing the irrigation system.
Within the framework of this program, it is planned to rehabilitate 2551 kilometers of irrigation networks. To achieve this, an annual allocation of 1.3 trillion soums from the state budget and 300 million US dollars from international financial organizations is envisaged.
Additionally, reducing the irrigated land area is one of the main tasks of the program. The irrigated area in regions with insufficient water supply will be reduced from 424 thousand hectares to 276 thousand hectares.
By the end of 2025, 15 pumping stations will be equipped with solar panels and energy-saving devices. These projects play an important role in increasing the efficiency of the irrigation system and reducing energy consumption.
Rational management of water resources and reforms in the irrigation sector will bring additional benefits to the country's economy and contribute to the development of sustainable farming and agro-industry.
