Operations of three local detention centers in Tashkent region have been temporarily suspended. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Recent inspections revealed that these institutions did not comply with sanitation and hygiene requirements. This issue was taken seriously by the internal affairs authorities, and appropriate measures were taken.
The Human Rights Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis – the Ombudsman, along with the representative in Tashkent region and public groups, conducted monitoring activities in the detention centers of Quyichirchik and Chinoz districts in June 2025. Based on the shortcomings identified during the inspection, the Ombudsman submitted an official report to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Subsequently, a series of measures were implemented to eliminate the deficiencies and bring the institutions in line with modern sanitation standards. In the Quyichirchik district detention center, the ventilation system was revised, and radio broadcasting devices were installed.
The cells were equipped with modern facilities, creating comfortable and safe conditions for the inmates. The walking area within the detention center, as well as sanitation networks including toilets and washing areas, were repaired and adapted to hygiene requirements.
Additionally, temporary detention centers in Chinoz, Qibray, and Yuqorichirchik districts were closed on July 21, 2025, by an official order of the Minister of Internal Affairs due to failure to meet sanitation and hygiene standards. This decision was made taking into account the opinions of the local population and the public.
Measures aimed at improving the quality of life and safety in detention centers are ongoing. Source: zamin.uz.
