
On August 26, 2025, the first historic meeting took place in Tashkent with the participation of special representatives of Central Asian countries on Afghanistan issues. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This event was organized at the initiative of Uzbekistan and was attended by official representatives from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting was held to develop regional cooperation and exchange views on important issues related to Afghanistan.
During the dialogue, participants emphasized the necessity of creating an independent and stable regional platform that serves the common interests of Central Asian countries. It was noted that developing an effective approach to the Afghanistan issue is important, as these regions are geographically close and have historical, cultural, and economic ties.
Furthermore, the need for cooperation to ensure stability and security in the Eurasian region was highlighted. The parties expressed their commitment to developing balanced and realistic approaches to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan.
The meeting also specifically emphasized the need to restore cooperation in trade-economic, transport-logistics, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. Additionally, issues of strengthening cooperation in combating cross-border crime, extremism, terrorism, and drug trafficking were discussed.
The regional countries stated their readiness to expand dialogue opportunities with the current Afghan authorities, taking into account their national interests. The parties underlined the regional significance of achieving sustainable development in Afghanistan.
The contact group was designated to operate as a stable platform for exchanging views, consultations, and coordinating actions. At the conclusion of the negotiations, it was confirmed that the contact group would meet regularly, and that regular meetings within the framework of Consultative meetings of the heads of Central Asian states would be appropriate.
