A number of measures are being taken to protect children from various forms of violence. However, there are instances on social media where children or underage girls are subjected to harassment, or indecent images are sent to them via the Internet. Now, it has been reported by Education News that responsibility for such cases will be intensified.
The law regarding "Amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the improvement of the system for protecting children from violence" was discussed at meetings of political party factions in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
According to the draft law, responsibility will be intensified for actions of indecency against individuals under the age of 16 conducted through telecommunications networks or the Internet. Additionally, individuals who repeatedly store pornographic materials depicting minors within a year will be held criminally liable.
The adoption of the draft will strengthen the guarantees for protecting children from sexual exploitation and crimes related to child trafficking. Furthermore, those who commit such crimes will be punished according to the severity of their actions, and public oversight will be established over individuals who have been held accountable for failing to pay alimony.
