A new incentive system is being introduced for prisoners in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the law discussed and approved at the tenth plenary session of the Senate, prisoners will have the opportunity to reduce their sentence by three days for each book they read. This initiative was developed to increase the effectiveness of prisoner rehabilitation, enrich their spiritual worldview, and prevent their disconnection from family and society.
According to the law, considering the fact that the person has embarked on the path of correction as per Article 74-1 of the Criminal Code, the reduction of the sentence has been legally strengthened. Prisoners are required to read only the books listed on a special list approved by the Republican Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment.
Once it is confirmed in a special procedure that the book has been fully read, the sentence can be reduced by three days for each book, and up to a maximum of thirty days per year. This procedure does not apply to life-sentenced prisoners; it is only applicable to prisoners who can be conditionally released early.
Senators emphasize that this norm can be applied to more than 13,500 prisoners. Experts note that this system is an important step not only in reducing sentences but also in the spiritual rehabilitation of prisoners and their reintegration into society.
Thus, reading books serves not only as a source of knowledge but also as a means for prisoners to approach freedom. Source: zamin.uz
