It has been discovered that the expiration date of sunflower oil under the “Oila tanlovi” trademark purchased by citizens of Uzbekistan was incorrectly indicated, and consumers will be compensated with a large amount. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This product was sold through the “Uzum” market and produced by the “Bo‘ston Food” company. An inspection conducted by the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights revealed that the product’s expiration date was stated as 12 months, which contradicts state standards.
In fact, according to the GOST 1129–2013 standard, this type of oil can only be stored for 6 months. Additionally, it was found that the technical regulation — O‘zTR No 724 — was not indicated on the label.
The committee assessed this situation as a violation of Article 6 of the Law “On Protection of Consumer Rights.” A special commission mandated the two companies to fulfill the following requirements: to recall 145 thousand bottles of the sold product and pay consumers a total compensation of 1.6 billion soums or replace the product with a quality copy.
If it is not possible to identify the buyers, the compensation amount will be transferred to the state budget. “Uzum Market” and “Bo‘ston Food Company” disagreed with this decision and appealed to the court, but the court rejected their claims and upheld the committee’s decision.
Experts consider this case an important lesson in protecting consumer rights. (Source: zamin.uz)
