The tourism sector in Uzbekistan has significantly developed over the last eight years. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to analyses by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, numerous reforms aimed at developing tourism were implemented in the country from 2017 to 2024. Afzal Artikov, the center's chief scientific officer, emphasized that this sector has now become one of the strategic directions of the economy.
Firstly, the visa issuance procedure was simplified, infrastructure was modernized, and measures to support tourism were taken. As a result, the number of foreign tourists increased fourfold, and service exports grew more than tenfold.
At the same time, employment in the tourism sector doubled, with 391 thousand people employed. In recent years, the Uzbekistan brand has been actively promoted internationally.
Cooperation was established with major companies in China, Europe, and North America. Hosting the UN General Assembly on Tourism in Samarkand and the “Tourism Capital of the Islamic World” conference in Khiva enhanced the country's international reputation.
Additionally, large tourism complexes such as “Tashkent City” in Tashkent, “Samarkand Tourism Center,” and “Valley of Legends” were put into operation. The results of 2024 also clearly demonstrated growth in the tourism sector.
The number of foreign tourists visiting the country reached 10.1 million, while domestic tourism flows exceeded 22 million. Tourism exports amounted to a total value of 10.7 billion dollars.
According to experts, such indicators could make tourism a key driver of the country's economy in the coming years. The development of the travel sector not only creates new jobs but also strengthens Uzbekistan's position on the international stage.
