On September 26, during the "World Nuclear Week" forum held in Moscow, Azim Ahmadkhojayev stated in an interview with Spot publication that the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan will lead to a decrease in electricity prices. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to him, after the investment period ends, the cost of producing 1 kWh of energy will significantly decrease. An increase in capacity will improve system efficiency, and according to economic principles, a reduction in prices is a natural process.
Ahmadkhojayev assessed nuclear energy as a sector that will have great importance in the future. He emphasized that coal energy has lost its significance, and natural gas should be used more efficiently in the production of high value-added products.
Moreover, nuclear energy plays an important role in ensuring the country's energy security. Previously, "Uzatom" and Russia's "Rosatom" corporation reached an agreement on the updated design of the nuclear power plant to be built in Uzbekistan.
The new project includes two large-capacity VVER-1000 (3+ generation) power units and two RITM-200N small reactors, each with a capacity of 55 MW. This agreement marks the beginning of a new stage in the country's energy sector (source: zamin.uz).
