According to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry, in the first eight months of 2025, Mongolia exported a total of 18.1 thousand tons of meat and meat products. This figure is 10.9 percent less compared to the same period last year.
Sheep and goat meat make up 63 percent of the export composition. According to the data, the majority of the products were delivered to China, UAE, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
Livestock farming holds great importance in Mongolia's economy, with approximately 40 percent of the population engaged in this sector. However, due to long and harsh winters, many herders lose their livestock annually.
According to the National Statistics Committee, by the end of 2024, the country had a total of 57.6 million head of livestock. Additionally, on June 27, 2025, officials from Mongolia and Uzbekistan reached an agreement to supply 2,000 tons of halal horse and lamb meat.
