The consumer rights protection system in Uzbekistan is being further improved. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
On October 6, 2023, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree “On measures for the effective protection of consumer rights.” According to this decree, from March 1, 2026, it will be technically impossible to sell products past their expiration date.
The product’s validity period will be automatically checked through a digital label and QR code. If the product is expired, the payment system will be blocked, and the sale will not be completed.
This measure is aimed at protecting consumers' health, ensuring transparency in the market, and limiting the circulation of substandard products. Currently, the digital labeling system has been introduced for tobacco, alcoholic products, medicines, household appliances, medical devices, and beverages, with over 115,000 products registered in the national catalog.
Additionally, from October 15, 2025, to January 1, 2027, test purchases using the “mystery shopper” method will be conducted with the participation of non-governmental organizations. This will help identify violations in the market and cases of consumer rights infringement.
Moreover, a new electronic platform will be launched on December 1, 2024. The platform will enable prompt and transparent consideration of consumer appeals and ensure effective cooperation between government agencies, entrepreneurs, and the public.
Through the new system, it is expected to create a healthy competitive environment in the market, increase citizens' trust, and prevent the sale of substandard products (source: zamin.uz).
