Uzbek students maintain their interest in studying abroad, but their total number is decreasing. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to data from the National Statistics Committee for January-August 2025, during this period, 20.7 thousand citizens went abroad for education. This figure is 24.6 percent less compared to last year.
The majority of students study in the neighboring Tajikistan, where there are 5,270 Uzbek students. Additionally, 4,649 study in Russia, 3,064 in Kyrgyzstan, 2,309 in the Republic of Korea, and 1,538 in Turkey.
Uzbek students are also present in Kazakhstan, China, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States. According to experts, young people mainly choose higher education institutions in neighboring countries because the admission process is simple and education costs are relatively low in these countries.
At the same time, in recent years, demand for universities in Korea and Turkey has increased because they occupy high positions in international rankings and are expanding scholarship programs (source: National Statistics Committee).
