
As of January 1, 2025, nearly 15 thousand libraries are operating in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The National Statistics Committee provided this information. The total collection of libraries contains more than 85 million books and journals.
The number of registered users amounts to 12.8 million people. Among them, 78 percent are youth.
Specifically, children under 14 years old make up 31.6 percent, while adolescents and youth aged 15-24 constitute 45.9 percent. The largest number of libraries is located in the Fergana region, totaling 2.1 thousand.
Following are the Samarkand region (1.9 thousand libraries) and the Kashkadarya region (1.5 thousand libraries). These figures include libraries of all educational institutions as well as information-library centers attached to agencies.
At the same time, in November of this year, the "Turon Book Station" project was launched in Tashkent city. Within this project, book shelves were installed at several metro stations.
This project aims to promote reading and increase the public's interest in books. According to the Ministry of Transport, it is planned to establish similar reading zones on other metro lines in the future.
