
Concerning cases related to environmental crimes have been identified in the judicial practice of Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In 2024 and the first half of 2025, 220 criminal cases related to violations of nature protection rules were reviewed. A total of 403 individuals were charged in these cases, of whom 393 were held accountable by court verdicts.
The remaining 7 cases were closed for various reasons. Analyses show that the most common environmental crimes are related to violations of flora and fauna laws.
In 2024, 116 people were held accountable for violating the rules of using the animal and plant world, while in the first six months of 2025, another 77 people were convicted. Additionally, crimes related to damaging or destroying crops, forests, and other plants are also frequently encountered.
In 2024, 73 people were held accountable for such crimes, and in the first half of 2025, 21 people were held responsible. Geographically, the Republic of Karakalpakstan leads in environmental crimes, accounting for 15 percent of the country's total cases in 2024.
Jizzakh and Sirdaryo regions recorded 12 percent each, Surxondaryo 11 percent, and Fergana region 10 percent, ranking next. In the first half of 2025, Karakalpakstan (26 percent) and Samarkand region (23 percent) showed high figures.
Moreover, administrative offenses in the field of ecology have also been reviewed. Within one and a half years, 2,466 administrative cases involved 2,478 individuals held accountable.
Half of these cases were recorded in Karakalpakstan, Bukhara, Samarkand, Sirdaryo, and Tashkent regions. These data indicate the necessity of preventing environmental crimes and strengthening measures.
Special attention should be paid to the situation in Karakalpakstan and Samarkand regions. At the same time, practical work is being carried out to improve the ecological situation within the framework of the nationwide "Green Space" project.
In the spring of 2025, 137 million tree and shrub seedlings were planted across the country. This event is an important part of the strategy to reduce environmental problems and combat the negative effects of climate change.
