US President Donald Trump's statement about over 100 billion dollars in investments and purchases by Uzbekistan sparked various debates among experts. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This figure is equivalent to Uzbekistan's annual gross domestic product and is significantly higher than the official agreements signed during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to the USA. Within the framework of the C5+1 summit between Central Asia and the USA, the Uzbekistan delegation signed a number of important agreements.
Donald Trump announced these agreements as a "huge trade and economic deal." According to him, within the next three years, Uzbekistan will bring 35 billion dollars to the US economy, and by 2035 this figure will reach 100 billion dollars.
These funds will mainly be realized through investments and purchases of US products. However, Uzbek officials report much lower figures.
The head of state presented a three-year cooperation project plan worth 34 billion dollars at the C5+1 summit. Later, the Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade, Laziz Qudratov, specified this figure as 34.8 billion dollars.
These funds will be directed to sectors such as agriculture, mining industry, mineral processing, and automobile manufacturing. At the same time, the Uzbek side has not confirmed agreements worth 100 billion dollars.
This amount equals Uzbekistan's gross domestic product for 2024, and the possibility of implementing such large-scale investments raises doubts among economists. Renowned economist Yuliy Yusupov called these figures "absolutely fantastic."
In his opinion, even considering all announced contracts such as Boeing airplanes and agricultural products, the final sum will not exceed several billion dollars. During negotiations held in Washington, a number of specific agreements were signed.
In particular, a contract was concluded between Uzbekistan Airways and Boeing for aircraft delivery. The national airline decided to purchase eight models of Boeing 787 Dreamliner airplanes.
Additionally, several agreements were signed in the fields of agriculture, industry, and high technology. For example, John Deere will supply agricultural machinery worth 300 million dollars to Uzbekistan.
While political statements are drawing attention to economic relations between the USA and Uzbekistan, the scale of cooperation is currently limited to specific projects. Source: Zamin.uz
