Unemployment and poverty rates in Uzbekistan are significantly decreasing. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Since the beginning of 2023, the unemployment rate in the country has steadily declined, reaching 4.9 percent. This figure is considerably lower compared to last year's 5.5 percent, with some regions experiencing unemployment rates below 4 percent.
Specifically, cities such as Bukhara, Kogon, Navoi, Zarafshan, Samarkand, and Shirin have for the first time approached the "natural unemployment" level. Measures aimed at improving the social welfare of the population are also yielding results in reducing poverty.
During the current year, 302 thousand needy families have risen out of poverty. By the end of the year, the poverty rate in the country is expected to decrease from 8.9 percent to 6 percent.
Additionally, in districts with difficult conditions such as Khavos, Mirzaobod, Okoltin, Dustlik, Pakhtakor, Forish, Boston, Vobkent, Mirishkor, Mingbuloq, Uzun, and Piskent, the number of poor families has significantly decreased. In these areas, 105 thousand families who were previously in difficult circumstances have started earning income, and the average income of poor families has doubled compared to the beginning of the year.
Moreover, this year, for the first time, 1,435 mahallas were recorded as "poverty-free" areas. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening economic stability, ensuring social protection, and employment in the country.
