In the near future, the travel time between the cities of Tashkent and Samarkand is expected to be significantly reduced. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Specifically, after the implementation of the new high-speed railway project, this distance will be covered 1.5 hours faster. According to information provided by the Ministry of Transport, this project is an important part of infrastructural changes.
According to Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriev, the project's technical and economic foundations were developed based on a grant allocated by the Korea Eximbank. Six modern high-speed trains from Hyundai Rotem will operate on the new route.
These trains are planned to start serving passengers from the beginning of 2025. The new railway route will start from the new international airport in Tashkent and extend to Samarkand.
This project will create the possibility to separate freight and passenger transportation into different routes and facilitate transit. Since such advantages are not available on the existing railways, the construction of a new route was necessary.
Within the framework of this project, three alternative routes have been developed. According to the first option, the route length is 282 km, and the travel time is 1 hour 26 minutes.
In the second option, the distance is 291.7 km, and the time is 1 hour 33 minutes. The third option envisions covering 302 km in 1 hour 45 minutes.
Many bridges and tunnels are planned to be constructed on each route. Regarding project financing, China Eximbank and the European Investment Bank have shown interest.
This project will serve to further develop the country's transport system. Source: Spot.
