The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, announced at the session of the Samarkand Regional Council of People's Deputies that the population of the region has exceeded 4.3 million. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
One of the largest districts of the region is Urgut district, where more than 600 thousand people reside. According to the President, Urgut district has long been a leader in the agricultural sector within the region.
However, in recent years, the district has been undergoing a transformation into an industrial center. The establishment of the Urgut free economic zone played an important role in this change.
In this area, 74 projects with a total value of 860 million dollars have been implemented, helping to turn the district into a major industrial center. The development of industry in the district has also stimulated growth in trade and service sectors.
Currently, Urgut district ranks third in industry and fourth in services within the region. Additionally, another significant project was completed in the district — a 55-kilometer railway line was launched.
Electrification works on this railway are planned to be completed next year. This new infrastructure will not only improve living conditions in Urgut district but also create new opportunities for the industrial, agricultural, and service sectors.
Thus, Urgut district is becoming an important industrial center not only for the Samarkand region but for the entire republic.
