Our President familiarized himself with the landscaping and reconstruction works being carried out in the Mahdumi A’zam pilgrimage site located in Dahbed settlement of Oqdaryo district, Samarkand region. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The head of state reviewed the project for the improvement of this pilgrimage site in March of this year. Mahdumi A’zam was originally born in the Kosonsoy district of the present Namangan region.
He was one of the prominent representatives of the Naqshbandi order, studied in Fergana during his youth, and later became a disciple of Khoja Ahror Vali in Samarkand. Mahdumi A’zam wrote more than 30 works on the knowledge of the tariqat and trained many disciples.
He was awarded the title “Mahdumi A’zam” for his religious and scholarly services. He found his eternal resting place in the Samarkand region.
Yalangtosh Bahodir built a dome, a large mosque, and a madrasa over his grave. He himself was also buried here after his death.
More than 50 tombstones have been preserved at the pilgrimage site, and historical sources note that two rulers of Afghanistan are also buried among them. Currently, large-scale construction and landscaping works are underway at the pilgrimage site.
Modern infrastructure is being established on this territory, which covers nearly 5 hectares. A three-story parking lot, entrance gate, administrative buildings, ablution facilities, a mosque for a thousand people, and additional verandas are being built for visitors.
These projects are being implemented to provide convenience for visitors. After reconstruction, the pilgrimage site will be able to accommodate 35,000 pilgrims at the same time.
Previously, this figure was only 5,000 people. In addition, more than 40 trade and service points will be established in the area, trees will be planted, and gardening and landscaping works will be organized.
The President listened to the recitation of the Qur’an at the pilgrimage site, planted a tree, and commemorated the spirit of Mahdumi A’zam. He also gave instructions to further improve the area and plant long-lasting trees.
