Glaciers in the mountains of Uzbekistan have been sharply shrinking in recent years. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to experts, within just two years, the thickness of the glaciers has decreased by more than 5 meters. This year, this figure has reached 4 meters.
This process may have a negative impact on the mountain ecosystem, water resources, and climate stability. The rapid melting of glaciers is explained by several reasons.
The main factor is the intensification of global warming. The rising temperatures year by year lead to the loss of glacier mass.
In addition, the decrease in precipitation and the average increase in atmospheric temperature are among the factors accelerating the process. The shrinking of glaciers seriously affects Uzbekistan's water resources.
The ice preserved in the mountains supplies rivers with water during the summer months. If the melting of glaciers continues at the current rate, it is warned that water shortages may arise in the future.
Today, ecology is considered one of the urgent problems not only for Uzbekistan but for the whole world. Experts emphasize the necessity of protecting nature, using resources wisely, and reducing factors harmful to the environment.
