The World Bank has approved a financial aid package of 250 million US dollars for Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This funding will be directed towards modernizing infrastructure and services in 16 districts and cities of the country. The project is being implemented within the framework of the "Program for Livable and Efficient Cities".
This program aims to support urban development amid rapid population growth. It is expected to improve the quality of life for approximately 1 million people through the program.
The funds will be allocated to upgrading roads, drinking water and sewage systems, public transport infrastructure, as well as parks, schools, kindergartens, and medical institutions. More than half of Uzbekistan's population currently lives in cities.
By 2050, this figure may exceed 60 percent. The program covers 13 regions, including the cities of Yangiyul and Margilan, as well as 14 districts across the country.
The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in cooperation with local government bodies. By 2030, the program plans to improve transportation system usage for 300,000 people and create new parks and public spaces for 400,000 people.
Additionally, the project will create 10,000 temporary jobs in the construction sector. More than half of the beneficiaries are expected to be women.
