President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the launch of a five-year program aimed at fundamentally renewing the transport infrastructure in his address to the Oliy Majlis and the people. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This program aims to increase the country's transit potential and provide a strong impetus to economic growth. This was reported by upl.uz.
According to the President, quality road networks have a significant impact on the country's gross domestic product and contribute at least 2 percent to economic growth. For this reason, the main road networks of the republic will be reviewed, and a total of 4 thousand kilometers of highways will be transformed into modern motorways that meet international standards.
The new projects will primarily start with strategically important routes. Among them are the Andijan–Qongirot and Tashkent–Termiz roads, as well as the Samarkand–Shakhrisabz and Alat–Sariosiyo routes.
These roads will be reconstructed in accordance with modern requirements. In addition, the construction of 800 kilometers of high-speed toll roads is also planned.
Toll roads will be established on the Tashkent–Samarkand, Tashkent–Andijan, and Tashkent–Bostanliq routes. Furthermore, new infrastructure will be built on the Pungan–Namangan and Qarshi–Shakhrisabz roads.
According to the 2026 plan, another 300 kilometers of roads will be repaired. The repair work will mainly cover important sections in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Bukhara, Kashkadarya, and Surkhandarya regions.
Additionally, when planning urban and intercity transport systems, public opinion will be taken into account, the environmental impact will be studied, and comfortable conditions for pedestrians will be created. It is emphasized that since Uzbekistan's climate varies from -20 to +50 degrees, it is necessary to use special polymer-bitumen materials in the construction of modern motorways.
These materials prevent the asphalt from softening at high temperatures.
