2025 was a significant year of events and changes for Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
During this year, the country achieved a number of historic accomplishments and attracted international attention. On June 5, the Uzbekistan national football team secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
The team succeeded in the qualifying stage, finishing second in their group. This achievement was especially important due to the expansion of the World Cup format, with 48 teams participating in the tournament.
During the qualification process, the team was led by Timur Kapadze, and later the famous coach Fabio Cannavaro took over this role. The initial matches of the championship are planned to be held against Colombia and Portugal.
In August, the city of Tashkent hosted a major concert by international music star Jennifer Lopez. This was recorded as the first AAA-level artist's show program in Uzbekistan.
The concert took place at the "Milliy" stadium and attracted over 31,000 spectators, more than 15,000 of whom were guests from abroad. This event brought significant revenue to the capital's budget.
In September, a major agreement was signed between Uzbekistan and Boeing. Under the deal, 22 Boeing 787 aircraft will be purchased for Uzbekistan Airways.
The value of this agreement exceeded 8 billion dollars, and deliveries are planned to continue until 2031. The agreement marked a new stage in cooperation between the United States and Uzbekistan.
In the last months of the year, ecological problems intensified in Tashkent and other regions. Air quality deteriorated, with smog and pollution affecting the health of the population.
To address this issue, a special ecological commission was established, and control over industrial facilities and construction was strengthened. At the same time, strict restrictions were imposed on the operation of thermal power plants and other enterprises.
In November, a joint business and investment council was established between Uzbekistan and the United States to develop economic cooperation. Additionally, a 30-day visa-free regime was introduced for US citizens.
However, obtaining a US visa remains difficult for Uzbek citizens. Economic changes were also observed throughout the year.
The Uzbek som strengthened against the dollar, ending the year at around 12,025 som per dollar. This was mainly due to increased gold exports, income from the services sector, and remittances.
The year 2025 was rich in major events in Uzbekistan's sports, culture, economy, and ecology sectors. This year contributed to strengthening the country's position on the international stage.
