Renewable energy production in Uzbekistan has doubled

Significant changes were observed in Uzbekistan's energy sector in 2025. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Energy, the volume of electricity production in the country increased by 6 percent. In particular, renewable energy sources – solar and wind power plants – took a leading position.
The amount of energy produced by these plants doubled, exceeding 10.5 billion kilowatt-hours for the first time. This was reported by podrobno.uz.
Renewable energy sources, including hydropower, accounted for a total "green" generation of 16.8 billion kilowatt-hours. This figure is 29 percent higher compared to the previous year.
These results enabled the country to save 3.2 billion cubic meters of gas and reduce harmful emissions by 4.7 million tons. Throughout the year, 42 new projects with a total capacity of 4,647 megawatts were launched.
Among them are 5 solar, 4 wind power plants, 10 battery systems, 1 thermal power plant, and 2 cogeneration units. Additionally, construction continues on 21 projects covering a total capacity of 3,508 megawatts.
According to the plan, besides power plants and energy storage systems, the construction of 2,050 kilometers of new power grids and substations is also envisaged. Thousands of kilometers of main and distribution networks were overhauled.
Transformers and substations were modernized, improving electricity supply to over 800,000 households in 954 neighborhoods. Within the energy efficiency program, 2.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and 2 billion cubic meters of gas were saved.
Earlier, construction began on the country's first enclosed substation in the New Tashkent area in cooperation with Chinese partners. This substation is planned to operate based on modern trigeneration technology, providing simultaneous heating, cooling, and energy savings for the city.
