Uzbekistan and Italy strengthen strategic cooperation
On January 19, 2023, in Tashkent, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

During this meeting, the issues of advancing the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Italy to a new level and expanding cooperation through practical projects were discussed. It was noted during the conversation that the high-level agreements reached in Samarkand in May 2025 are being consistently implemented.

It was emphasized that these plans are not remaining on paper but are turning into concrete actions. Additionally, it was acknowledged that dialogues between the parties are actively continuing at various levels, with an increase in trade turnover and the number of joint ventures.

Interregional cooperation with the Lombardy region was also specifically mentioned. At the same time, it was noted that quotas have been allocated for Uzbek citizens within the framework of orderly labor migration to Italy.

Great attention was paid to cooperation in the industrial sector during the meeting. It was mentioned that large projects with Italian companies such as “Finopera,” “ANCI,” “Pietro Fiorentini,” and “Danieli” are being successfully implemented.

Cooperation in the scientific and educational fields is also developing. In particular, the opening of a branch of Tushia University in Samarkand became an important step in strengthening bilateral relations.

Within the framework of the plans set for this year, strategic dialogues between foreign policy agencies, intergovernmental commission meetings, and the second Rectors’ Forum are planned. Issues of advancing joint projects in economic cooperation areas such as textiles, geology, energy, chemistry, construction materials, and the financial market were discussed.

In the field of cultural cooperation, plans to organize Italy and Uzbekistan film days, Uzbekistan’s participation in the Venice Biennale, as well as holding practical art and museum exhibitions in Milan were supported. During the meeting, international and regional issues were also discussed.

In conclusion, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan. Although the meeting was brief, its content was significant as it was aimed at further strengthening long-term and strategic cooperation.
