Erkinjon Turdimov's senatorial mandate was terminated early

The Central Election Commission has decided to terminate Erkinjon Turdimov's powers as a member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis ahead of schedule. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This decision was made in full accordance with the current laws. According to the Constitution of Uzbekistan, members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis are elected from among the deputies of the regional, district, and city Councils of People's Deputies.
Therefore, the senatorial status is directly linked to the deputy status in the local Councils. If a senator loses their powers as a deputy in the local Council, they automatically lose their membership in the Senate as well.
This procedure is clearly defined by law. In this case, Erkinjon Turdimov lost his status as a deputy of the Samarkand regional Council because he was appointed as the governor of Sirdaryo region.
For this reason, his senatorial powers were also legally terminated. It is emphasized that if Turdimov is later elected as a deputy to the Sirdaryo regional Council, according to the current procedure, he can be re-elected as a senator.
Thus, the senatorial title does not have an independent status. It is intrinsically linked to the deputy powers in the local representative body, and these relations are regulated by legislation.
