Penalties for crimes against minors will be increased

In Uzbekistan, it is planned to strengthen penalties for sexual crimes committed against minors, especially children under the age of 14. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Life imprisonment may be introduced as a punishment for these crimes. This was reported by UzDaily.uz.
These proposals are reflected in the draft program for the implementation of the “Uzbekistan — 2030” strategy, which is currently open for public discussion. Within the framework of the project, it is proposed to apply life imprisonment as the most severe penalty for individuals who violate the sexual inviolability of persons under 14 years of age.
Additionally, the authority to investigate criminal cases related to sexual and other violence against children is planned to be fully transferred to the prosecutor's office. Furthermore, to effectively investigate cases related to violence and pressure against women and children, as well as to strengthen court proceedings, a specialized corps consisting of investigators and judges with special training is planned to be established.
These measures are aimed at providing stronger legal protection for vulnerable groups, especially children and women, as well as increasing the effectiveness of combating sexual crimes. The authors of the initiative emphasize that these changes are of significant importance in ensuring public safety.
