Large cash prizes will be awarded to the winners of the Olympiad

A new incentive system for young people pursuing science in Uzbekistan has attracted public attention. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized during an open dialogue with youth on February 24, 2026, that school student Daler Rahimov received a reward exceeding 1 billion soms for his victory at the International Chemistry Olympiad. This meeting was organized extensively at the Kuksaroy residence.
Although this news surprised many, it is not accidental. According to a decision adopted in 2024, students who achieve high results in prestigious international science Olympiads are awarded substantial cash prizes.
This system is aimed at supporting young people who show excellent results in mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, and informatics Olympiads. According to the decision, gold medalists receive 2500 BHM, silver medalists 1500 BHM, and bronze medalists 1000 BHM as prize money.
Currently, BHM is set at 412,000 soms, so the prize for a gold medal amounts to 1 billion 30 million soms. This system encourages not only the students but also their teachers and national team leaders.
This news carries a broader meaning beyond the personal success of one student. Great opportunities are opening up for young people who excel in science and honorably represent Uzbekistan on the international stage.
Winning an Olympiad is not only a matter of prestige but also a material incentive. This will undoubtedly inspire many talented boys and girls toward new victories.
