The President strengthens the protection of women and children

On March 3, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, reviewed new initiatives aimed at strengthening the protection of the rights of women and children and preventing pressure and violence against them. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
These initiatives include measures prepared based on broad public input, industry experts, and international experience. The head of state approved these initiatives and signed the relevant decree.
It is worth noting that special attention was paid to issues being discussed in society. For example, proposals were put forward to increase penalties for sexual misconduct and to impose life imprisonment for pedophiles.
In addition, measures such as not transferring individuals who commit crimes against minors to penal colonies and transferring investigative authority over certain crimes to the prosecutor's office were also considered. The new initiatives stipulate that cases of violence against women and children will be handled by specially trained lawyers, investigators, and judges.
Furthermore, to enhance the safety of women who have suffered from violence, it was proposed to install a special “SOS” application on their phones. With this app, when the call button is pressed, internal affairs officers can quickly arrive at the scene.
Issues of early marriage and early pregnancy were also discussed. Considering that most marriages occur among 18-19-year-olds, it was proposed to encourage marriage at the age of 21 by providing financial support and exemptions from state fees.
Additionally, it was proposed to establish administrative liability for failure to report cases of early marriage and pregnancies under the age of 16. Another important update is the establishment of measures to preserve the opportunity for female students who are pregnant or raising children up to 3 years old to continue their education.
These initiatives are aimed at systematically protecting the safety of women and children and advancing the fight against early marriage and violence to a new level.
