A proposal to limit divorce within one year of marriage has been put forward in Uzbekistan.

An important draft law has been developed in the Republic of Uzbekistan to strengthen the family institution and prevent divorces among young people. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to this document proposed by the Ministry of Family and Women, spouses are temporarily restricted from applying to the court for divorce before one year of marriage has passed. This rule mainly serves to stabilize the family environment and reduce hasty decisions.
However, this restriction does not apply in cases of domestic violence or serious life-threatening situations. In such cases, the court makes a decision more quickly and protects family members.
The draft law proposes adding a new clause to the Civil Procedure Code. For example, applications to dissolve the marriage without the husband's consent during the wife's pregnancy or within one year after the child is born will be rejected.
Additionally, the period given to spouses for reconciliation before divorce in courts will be extended from six months to one year. During this time, family disputes will be examined more thoroughly, and counseling services by specialists are planned to be organized.
In cases of divorce, the future of minor children, which parent they will live with, and the procedure for the other parent to communicate with the children will also be clearly defined. Furthermore, a serious improvement of the alimony system is envisaged.
The amount of financial support allocated for children must not be less than the minimum consumer expenses. The collected funds will be accumulated in a bank account opened directly in the child's name, and its expenditures will be monitored.
To simplify processes, some matters will be carried out through the electronic government system. According to statistical data, the number of divorces through the court has been increasing in our country in recent years.
This trend has been especially observed in Tashkent city, Fergana, Andijan, and Samarkand regions. The main reasons include mutual distrust, lack of full readiness for marriage, and cases of infidelity.
The new law is hoped to provide stronger support to families and ensure stability in society.
